Wine stopper, bottle stopper, wine gift, Scottish gift, burl gift

Made from locally sourced Scottish Burr Wych Elm, consistently one of my most popular woods. I harvested the burr that i used for this particular knife from a tree in Balmacara, West Coast of Scotland beside the Isle of Skye and have been waiting for it to dry for a few years now. I have used perhaps over a hundred burrs in my time and this one stood out due to the very clearly defined lighter sapwood to darker green brown heartwood, quite a rare thing indeed. The sapwood is a creamy brown with darker burr “eyes” and has a creamy golden iridescence. Lovely mix of both heart and sapwoods on this particular stopper. I free-form cut each wooden topper to ensure they are all different and unique. I have finished the wood with cellulose thinners and Shellac then two types of an industrial wax which leaves a hard wearing finish and an attractive satin sheen.
The stopper itself is the best quality bottle stopper i could find and is triple chrome plated so will never rust or corrode. It is well engineered as it unscrews completely from the burr top for easy cleaning. This stopper has a weighty quality feel to it and makes an excellent gift for those who appreciate wine accessories.
Stopper dimensions are: 91mm long x 34mm wide X 37mm thick.
All with all my pieces i have used pyrography to apply my “UBC” makers mark, in this case to the bottom of the wooden topper.
