Luxury wooden heart in Scottish Boxwood and African Pink Ivory with free personalisation, i love you, love gift, special gift for her, valentine gift

For the outside wood of this heart i have chosen some local Scottish Boxwood. This piece came from an extremely overgrown bush in a very neglected garden in Inverness. Box is a small, slow growing evergreen tree usually see in hedge form. It has a mellow yellow colour usually with some darker steaks running through and is extremely hard. Its hardness has made it popular through the ages for musical instruments, chess pieces and small intricate carvings. The Japanese favour this wood for carving netsuke. From my own experience, Boxwood is very similar to Hawthorn and don’t get a chance to work it very often. It is a pleasure to carve and from start to finish just screams quality.
The centre is made from some very special African Pink Ivory. It came from South Africa and i have had it for approximately 8 years. Colour-wise it is pink with streaks of red, is extremely hard and finishes to a high lustre. Pink Ivory aka Umgoloty has an interesting and regal history with it being the exclusive wood of Zulu Royalty and non-royals who possessed it would be put to death! Thankfully these days, even normal people can own Pink Ivory but should definitely think themselves very fortunate.
The red Satin 7mm ribbon is through a reamed 3mm hole and completes the heart perfectly. The wood is finished with Shellac and Cellulose thinners and then polished with two types of industrial wax to leave a hardwearing satin sheen. As with all my pieces i have used pyrography to apply my ‘UBC” makers mark, in this case, very very small into the crease.
I have allowed approximately 12-15mm square for personalisation which i am happy to do free of charge. There is enough room for initials and perhaps a date if required. Please put your requirements in the buying notes.
