Scottish Red Deer Antler Tine key ring, key chain, Scottish gift, antler gift, horn gift, mens gift, gift for man
The antler comes from a Scottish Red Deer stag that lived in the Lairg area, Sutherland, North of Scotland. Some antlers are shed naturally and some are a by-product of the venison industry. Red Deer Stag antler is a fantastic material to work with, about the working hardness of Oak, it has a fine grain and finishes very well.
I have had a few of these antler tine offcuts building up and as i always try to do justice to, and use as much of my materials as possible i made these little key rings.
They are really cute and are a true piece of natural Scotland. I have left this tine pretty much how the deer made it, only smoothing out rough areas. This natural look is getting more and more popular with me these days so happy to give my customers what they want.
I finish the antler with two types of industrial waxes. These leave a hard wearing satin sheen finish and do not discolour the antler in any way.
I have attached a quality chrome, fancy clasp key ring chain with a small screw eye.
As with all my pieces, i use pyrography to apply my ‘UBC” makers mark.
The antler piece measures 40mm long x 14mm thick at the widest end. The key ring chain measures 65mm long.
