Small Bowl in Scottish Wych Elm
Every time for the last 10 years or so i have been dropping subtle hints to my good friend and mentor Robert the Spruce that he won’t fit into his house one day due to the unbelievable amount of his wood turning/carving on every single bit of available space. Finally he has given me some of his work to “find a new home”. Each piece has been made by his experienced hands and, just like me, he knows the origin of each piece of wood.
This bowl is made from local Wych Elm which grew in Lael, 10 minutes South of Ullapool, West Coast of Scotland. Wych Elm is the Highland cousin of European Elm, mid to light browns often with streaks of green.A delicate and unusual bowl with a bowl wall of 4.1mm.
He has finished the wood with Danish Oil giving it a lovely satin sheen and also making it food safe. As with all his pieces he has added is Spruce tree makers mark, in this case to the underside of the bowl.
The bowl measures:
Total length 153mm x width153mm x height 68mm.
It weighs 116 grams
