Small Square Bowl in African Mahogany

Every time for the last 10 years or so i have been dropping subtle hints to my good friend and mentor Robert the Spruce that he won’t fit into his house one day due to the unbelievable amount of his wood turning/carving on every single bit of available space. Finally he has given me some of his work to “find a new home”. Each piece has been made by his experienced hands and, just like me, he knows the origin of each piece of wood.
This bowl is made from a very old piece of African Mahogany from the Cameroon. Robert said the wood blank itself was very old when he turned it some 40 years ago. This bowl has had time to mellow which shows up in its colour. Darker reddish brown bands with rings of lighter golden irridescent brown. A sold little bowl with a wall of 8mm.

He has finished the wood with Danish Oil giving it a lovely satin sheen and also making it food safe. As with all his pieces he has added is Spruce tree makers mark, in this case to the underside of the bowl.
